Colored choice 2: olive green

Yes, from the title of today's blog post, I am doing another Colored choice. Today's color is one of my favorites, olive green.
Since I haven't done one of these in some time, I'll explain the series again. I pick a random color, today's being olive green, and I find items that I like that go well with that color. Somewhere random in this post, just for kicks, I put in another color that I think works well alongside the featured color.        Get it? It's OK if you don't; you can look back at my last post and see what's going on.
     Ready? OK.

A perspective

Today, my outfit was a little different. Actually, it was a lot different. I was inspired by an old leather jacket to create another tough meets feminine look, because you all know how much I love juxtaposition. This one features more of a tough look, and that is probably because of the jacket. So sit back, relax, and enjoy another one of my adventures in the art of combinations to make magic.

Something familiar

Nothing big today. Just a super casual outfit. Today just wasn't much of a dress up day for me, I guess.

Elie Saab fall 2017

You know how much I like collections. I haven't been able to peruse the web, hunting for collections lately, due to *another* fashion show I'm in. (I know, when does it ever stop? But I'm having fun, so it's OK for me.)
However, that all changed when one of my friends showed me a collection that completely blew me away. And that collection was property of Elie Saab, a Lebanese designer. And he is pretty darn talented, let's just say that. Even though that's a giant understatement.
So, I could just sit around and talk for a hundred years about how amazing Elie Saab's work is, or I could show you. I mean, isn't that the point of fashion? To show and not just tell???
So without further ado, I will show you some of my top picks from this gorgeous and totally innovative collection.

Some simple sketches

First of all, I would like to open by saying that this isn't a series. I don't know if I would make it a series. I don't sketch as much as I used to, and this isn't about what would make a good new series. I already have a good number of series:
Top Five Faves
Polyvore recently
Shoe Crush
Colored choice
I just wanted to take some time and show you some kind of old and relatively new sketches. And by "relatively new," I mean that I literally sketched them today. That's actually how I got the idea for this post.
So, I will show you several sketches that appeared from inspiration in my head. You could say that they're tangible representations of my brain.

Polyvore recently 5

If you read the title, you probably already have gleaned that today is  Polyvore recently kind of day. So without further ado, I will launch right into the fifth edition of this (fairly new) series.
Also, if you have a Polyvore account, make sure to follow me by clicking here. And if you don't have a Polyvore? Try it out! A friend of mine recently joined Polyvore, and she loves it, so thats further proof that Polyvore is the perfect place for fashion, art, and interior design lovers to collaborate in one place.
So, let's dive right in! Here's what my right brain has come up with lately:

Another organza

Yeah, in case you haven't gotten the picture. I like organza. I like it a lot. Also, I had quite a bit left over from my DCFW project. So, I decided to use the leftover to create a new skirt. It's like a replica of the big, standout piece, only it's shorter.
I personally love it. I think that even though the bigger one is gorgeous, it's more difficult to deal with. With the smaller one, it's easy to smooth it out and go. However, the smaller skirt doesn't have the showstopping quality that the bigger one has. It's more street style than dazzling formal occasion, if you know what I mean.
See for yourself! Which one do you like more?

Birthday time

If you must know, June 5 is my birthday. Yeah! Today, on Monday, my regular post day, my birthday came around! How cool is that! I'm turning one year older, and it's always cool to reflect on the year I'm leaving behind. And to think that June 5th would've been just another day to me if I wasn't born on that day.
Being older is a funny thing. You don't really notice that you're older until it's your birthday. And what it actually is your birthday you don't feel like you actually have aged, at least for me. Today, I woke up and it didn't really register with me that it was my birthday. It didn't really register with me that I was one year older, or one year " wiser." But today was a very fun day, I can say that. My friends and family were all here to wish me a very happy birthday, that didn't go unnoticed. But I keep saying it to myself, "I'm one year older! I'm one year older!"
Birthdays used to be a big deal for me when I was younger. There were parties, extravaganzas, millions of squealing children running around the house. There was food, there were games. There were presents. Lots and lots of presents. All the works. Now, don't put on such a big production for my "special day." It's not that I don't like birthdays; I do. It's just that I have a different way of marking the milestone now. And it's still special to me.
But one of these days, I might just throw a big party, just for fun, just for kicks. It's always fun to think about how you're going to celebrate. Because you're only going to turn the age you are once. Why not make it fun? At least if it's not fun that you have in mind, aim to make it memorable. Because being older can be a special thing. It can make you realize things that you wouldn't have had you been five or ten years younger. For example, I've been reading a lot of poetry lately, and poetry has some deep meanings that a couple of years ago, I would not have been able to guess. There are some life lessons that have been repeated to me over and over that I am now starting to get from the experiences that I have had being older. It's cool to know that life can teach you things that you didn't know. It's cool.
I used to want to be younger. It was all I wanted when the pressures of life became to be too much. And in a way, I still do want to be younger. But if I was younger, I would not have been able to find a place where I felt like I belong, like this blog. This blog has offered me an outlet like no other. And for that I'm truly grateful.
How do you guys like to celebrate your birthday? Big parties or small gatherings? I guess you could say that I'm in the middle. There's no place I'd rather be.
Well, guys, that's all I've got for today. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go celebrate my birthday right now, the way that I want. And it's gonna be fun. How do I know? Because as I said before, it's gonna be the way that I want. Have a great day Fashion tealers xx

Shoe Crush: GoJane Caged Beauty Strappy Thong Sandals

Remember that I said I was going to have not one, but two Shoe Crush posts out soon? Well, you saw the first, so here today is the second. I am so excited to reveal these shoes to you.
The process of buying shoes was fun but difficult at the same time. I had to narrow down my search to about two or three pairs, and I had about seven or eight tabs open, each with different shoes.
Yeah, that was gonna be the hardest part.
The narrowing down process hurt, but eventually, I got down to three pairs. I only bought two because one didn't have my size. I bought the gladiator sandals, and I bought these. By "these" I mean the Caged Beauty Strappy Thong Sandals from GoJane. They are superb. They are incredible. They are every synonym of those words. They were the first pair of shoes that I confidently placed in my "have-to-have" list.
The one thing that caught my attention and made me want to buy them in the first place was the detailing. The crisscrossing straps on the shoes were so elegant, and I liked how many straps there were to stylishly secure your foot in the shoe. I also liked the slim design of the shoe. It's so pretty!
The only thing I had a problem with was the straps, ironically, and the size. As for the straps, they cover less of my foot than I wanted. They only covered a little more than a third, when I thought the crisscross would travel to halfway down my foot. Don't be fooled by the pictures, folks. The straps aren't as vast as you'd think. Also, the soles of the shoes were kind of narrow, so fitting into them is a little bit of a squeeze. I can deal with that. However, I also disliked how the sole was too long. It extended past the tips of my toes; it didn't end right at them. But these are all minor. I can overlook them because the shoes are so pretty!
Now, let me give you a chance to drool over these must-haves:

Just carefree things

Just a simple outfit post today. Nothing big. And notice how I included the shoes from last week's post in this outfit. Just for some inspiration on how to wear it. Oh, and also take note of the fact that my bag color doesn't match my shoe color. I'm all over the place! I don't really know what prompted that decision. Maybe it was a leftover New Years resolution. Maybe I'm just letting go of some of my rigid rules. But whatever the case may be, it doesn't look too bad.

Shoe Crush: Charlotte Russe Strappy Ankle Buckle Sandals

Yay! Another Shoe Crush! These shoes I'm particularly crushing on. And yeah, I probably say that for every Shoe Crush post, but these type of shoes are what I've been pining for for months.
If you haven't seen at least one mention of gladiator sandals on my blog ever, that means that you're probably either new or extremely oblivious. But long story short, I like gladiator sandals. A lot. SO the process of ordering some was thrilling. I kept thinking, I'm finally getting some gladiator sandals. The more strappy the better is my motto, so when I found these, I was content.
Well, I'm going to stop chattering on about my love for these divine shoes, and I'm going to get into it. If you want to buy them. which you might, the link is right here. Click on it. You know you want to.

Hampton beach day

No, I already know your question. I did not go to the beach in the Hamptons. I just had that image in mind while creating this outfit. The striped shorts so remind me of the beach. And so do the wedges. I mean, who doesn't think of beach and then wedges? Throw in a straw hat and you've got the look.
When thinking of a beachy vibe, I go towards the shorts and wedges, but who knows? Throw in your own spin to the outfit. A straw bag, maybe. Some sunglasses. Or the hat I mentioned.

Yeah. Another romper today. If you saw last week, you'd see that I wore a romper. This one this week is more subdued. The sweater that I'm wearing is more the source of the pattern. Truthfully, I don't love this romper as much as the one from last week, but I like how the royal blue sharply contrasts when placed with the sweater. I feel that this outfit is more hipster, but I don't know. Maybe it's the sweater doing the talking.
Oh, and I'm in the midst of ordering some nice shoes, just because. I'll have not one, but two Shoe Crush posts coming sometime soon. Stay tuned for that. And believe me, I'll be wearing these shoes out. Definitely. I'm excited.

Normal day

Nothing big today. just a simple romper. With a twist. I added a purple shirt underneath of it, because why not? I kind of like this look more because I was able to add my own thing to it. And I found that it works both unzipped and zipped up too. Very cool.
And this romper is international, meaning that it came from my trip to Mexico. So I can;t give you the exact name of the place that I got it, but when I found it, I knew I had to buy it.

Oh, is it Easter monday already?

Wow, that next Easter came quick. It feels like just yesterday I was getting all gussied up for a fun day of celebrations and food.
I was doing some thinking about this post, and I decided that instead of playing the safe card and putting on a pretty dress that would ultimately be the center of the post, I wanted to do something a little different. I wanted to make a statement. Mainly about the passage of time. Time goes by so fast, and I know that most are aware of that concept. It seems like you blink, and bam! There go two years. Then you're sitting and wondering, where the heck did all that time go though? It's a crazy concept to wrap my head around; and since we don't have a time machine, we have to really think about what we're doing in the moment and ingrain it into our memories so that we don't feel as sad recalling past memories and the fact that they'll never come back to us. You can always recreate the experience but never the memory. People tend to get that mixed up, a lot.
So what does this have to do with fashion? A lot. Well, back in the late 90s and early 2000s, where all the rage was on consumerism. People back then tended to be so hooked on the trends and famous brands and looking to the next thing that they didn't ever look back and appreciate the trends that once used to be cool. It was so important to look just like the people in the latest magazines that wearing something from only just a couple months ago was considered a horrific crime.
Today, we do a much better job of... not doing that. We actually appreciate bringing back old trends, because that pays homage to he or she who created it. (And who ever said that the old trend wasn't cute anymore?) And sometimes, there really isn't a distinct line between "new" and "old" because some trends, like bucket bags, have never stopped being worn. By keeping trends constantly in rotation, more people can experiment with different trends, and combine one trend with another to create something is totally new and different. Creating that difference is a way of making new pathways with different trends; and by giving those trends the flexibility to do that, it creates a great deal of unique dressing and thinking. I think it's a perfect way to recall memories and add a little of that feeling into your outfit.
So today, I wanted to convey that idea in a really bold statement. I wanted to break some rules and question myself and what I was wearing. It doesn't exactly go together, but who gets to decide that? Only time will tell.
I also wanted to pull in a theme of childhood. When we were children, no one judged us based on what we wore. Using the theme of childhood would be a perfect example of me calling back fond memories, and boy, do I have a lot of them!

Simple maxi dress outfit today. It's such a gorgeous dress. But before I go down the gushing and overwriting and praising road, let's just stop and appreciate the dress. Let the outfit speak for itself.

Playing with light

Let me just start by saying that the outfit is always the focal point for all of my posts. However, I did decide to call some attention to lighting this week. I used flash on my camera to sharpen up the image a bit and give it more of a teenager-y quality (using flash, I'd almost expect to be wearing Adidas Superstars instead of the shoes I'm wearing), almost like those flash pictures taken at night and put on Instagram and Twitter or wherever they're put. Flash is great except for one thing, the colors kind of shrink away and what assumed is that my dress is black and white instead of navy blue and white. Albeit it's a very deep navy blue, but it's still there, Let's see if you can try to differentiate between the pictures using flash and not using it. I don't think it'll be very hard.
And I know all of my outfit is from Walmart. Not proud, I admit. But I saw this dress (funny, while on the hunt for cereal) and loved it instantly. I also found three others which I will be featuring in a post sometime soon.

Shoe crush: Oxford ankle booties

Finally got a pair. Finally got around to taking some action besides just drooling over them. I ordered a pair of black lace up wedge ankle booties, and they came, and I feel on top of the world.
I'm not going to take away from the suspense from providing endless detailing about them. I'll just show you. They are gorgeous, I'll just say that. Have a look at these amazing booties.

New series: Colored choice 1: Deep teal

The reason for this creation of a new series is twofold. One, I've seen this done on other blogsm and what better place to get inspiration for my blog than from other amazing blogs? Also, it's an easy way to provide content for those busy, over-the-top days that have been coming my way frequently. And no, it's not sloppy or lazy, it's my way of bringing something to the table that's easy to blog about yet new and different.
Now, onto a description of this new series. It's called "Colored choice" because it's a selection of different garments (the "choice" part) that all have, more or less, the same color (the "colored" part). And I plan to include one accent (because you know I love accents) clothing item of my choice that will go nicely with one of the other items displayed. It's hard to explain. So I'll just show you what I mean.
Look out for the two different-colored items side by side and see their contrast. Juxtaposition is a great word for it. Because you know I like juxtaposition.
Teal is my color for this post because... just because I like teal. And for the first time doing this, I figured sticking to my favorite color would be safest for now.

Polyvore recently 4

I'm doing another Polyvore recently this week because I've been really inspired by Polyvore. Like always. But more this time. So many items, sets, and people coming together to make it a really good place to be on the Internet. And that's one of the reasons I love fashion. Not only is it an artistically positive world, but it gives so many opportunities to create, share, and inspire between like-minded people. And that is achieved in few other areas of life.
So once again, I stress this. If you don't currently have a Polyvore account, it would really be in your best interest to get one. You don't have to create "competitively" and have the most followers (I certainly don't); you can use it as an outlet. A place for your creativity to be artfully dumped, for lack of a better word. And I've met so many cool people on Polyvore. What's the worst that could happen? I encourage all, men and women and boys and girls, to give it a go.

Top Five Faves: D'orsay flats

Yes, I was inactive the past two months or so. Yes, without explanation. And I'm sorry for that. I was frustrated and stressed and out of content ideas, so I thought that it would be best to take some time off of Fashion teal and refocus. I want great content ideas, and they just weren't coming to me. Hopefully this break I took will be a great way to get my "mind juices" running.
And I also made a decision. No more long, rambling posts about outfits. I think part of the reason I felt so uninspired is because I was afraid that blogging would take hours because I had to write a paragraph for each post. So, I came back to the world of blogging inspired. Fashion isn't about words necessarily. It's about the outfits that make us speechless. I'll say what I have to say and move on. No droning. If there are more things to say at times, sure, I'll say them. But not each time.
With that being said, thanks to everyone who's still here. I apologize again. Now, let's get to it.
I haven't done Top 5 Faves in a while, so I thought that it was the right time to do it. This time it's focused on d'orsay flats because I've always had a craving for them. You already know that I have a pair of black ones that I can't live without. I wear them all the time, and they're gorgeous, simply put.
 So, here we go.

One jacket 3 ways pt. 3

Today, I bring you the final outfit. Part 3. I'm excited about this outfit because while this mini-series was entirely focused on my brand spanking new jacket, I'm completely head over heels for what I'm wearing on my feet. The boots with the scrunched socks make my feet look delicate and small, and I like a shoe and sock pairing that's able to do just that. So, don't just look at the jacket, look at the whole outfit, and pay some more attention to the shoes than usual.
But anyway, back to the jacket. Still ecstatic to be wearing it, still thinking it was my favorite Christmas gift (but I just don't know, I got so many gifts that I loved!). I just love wearing it, and it makes me so happy. So for those of you tirelessly searching for a significant other to make you feel glee; instead, maybe try searching for that perfect leather jacket. The perfect one is so trustworthy and it'll stay with you for a long, long time. I promise!

One jacket 3 ways pt. 2

Outfit 2 today. Still in love with this comfortable, beautiful, satisfying, perfect, soft leather jacket. Nothing's new; nothing's changed.
So, here's the second new outfit I dreamed up. I am just loving how the extra long sleeves extend out past the jacket and soften up the look. It's really gives the outfit layers, and there has never been a time in my life where I was not a fan of layering.

Happy new year: One jacket 3 ways pt. 1

Happy New Year, Fashion tealers! I hope that you had a prosperous 2016 and are heading into an even better 2017. I am seizing every opportunity to try and make it great.
And yes, I know, it's hard to "look on the bright side" sometimes with a new year and new changes. It's hard for me, too. Like, really hard. I'm the worst with change. But, I don't want anyone to get bogged down by the hard stuff. For the new year, I want you to remember two things that have taken me a long way. One's from a totally cheesy Disney Channel movie, but I still remember it, so that shows how powerful it is. The second I've heard a lot, but it took one of my favorite singers, India Arie, to release a song with that title to make it really meaningful to me. I also remembered that my English teacher from years back got a tattoo of this phrase, and since then it's stuck in my head.
1. When things are bad, they don't stay that way.
and similarly,
2. This too shall pass.
Make those two phrases your mantra for 2017, because I promise, it'll be just fine.
Before I get into the outfit, I just wanted to say that the reason that you might have been recieving my posts late (*growling*) is because Blogger is having an issue for me in which my blog posts don't post (but it says they have) then just randomly show up a week or two later. It's ridiculous. But it's fine. Who knows, maybe this post will do the same thing. But I'm so sorry for this. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. Happy day after new year, everyone.
Now, to the good stuff. This outfit I'm so excited about.
