It all pays off (HUGE NEWS)

I have huge huge news for you all! But... it will be revealed after this outfit post first. Oh, and hint: this news is good. Really good. Amazing, actually.

Now. The good news. The great news. The can't-contain, can-barely-sit-still kind of news. I have a piece of news so huge, I can't think of anything else except for this news. Because Fashion teal is a fashion-related blog and this is fashion-related news, it only makes sense to let the readers of this fashion-related blog know as one of the first people I tell. The first thing I did after receiving this news was tell someone. Text one of my closest friends, one of the few people that actually knew about this beforehand. Then, of course, I had to update this blog post and tell you, the reader, what I just found out.
Anyone reading this with a focused mind would probably be screaming "Well, can't you stop beating around the bush and tell me what the news is already?" And yes, I can. I want to. Enough beating around the bush. Right now.
Well, before I tell you the news, I need to tell you the story. This isn't bush-beating, this is telling you the story. Here's the story:
It all started with a girl I had never seen before in my life
I was happily sewing away at my sewing school this past month, and a girl I had never seen before in my life come in with her mom. Her mom, excitedly gushing (as she should have been) explained to one of the instructors that this girl, her daughter, had been selected to be a designer with a 12 (I don't remember the exact number)- piece collection at Baltimore Fashion Week. That's amazing! Congrats! It was due to her supposedly amazing sketches. I'd never seen them before because I'd never seen this girl before. I didn't get her name, or even really anything about her, except that she was insanely talented. Oh, and she had really cute shoes. But this girl, this girl I had never seen before in my life, turned out to be extremely helpful in advancing my fashion design career. This was because as I rode home from my sewing school, I realized that if this girl could do it, so could I. She got into Baltimore Fashion Week? I'd try for... DC Fashion Week. It was far-fetched, so I needed to talk this over with someone. When I got home, I FaceTimed one of my close friends, and together we visited the DC Fashion Week site and looked through it. I found the designer application, and after talking to that (extremely supportive) friend, we decided that I should at least give it a go.
I worked on that application for days. I mean days. Not hours, days. I was stressed, but not as stressed as the fashion show I had planned earlier in the year (remember that post?), and when I sent the application in, I was apprehensive. Was I really going to get accepted? I didn't think so. Because of my self-doubt, I didn't tell anyone that I applied.
The news came 5 days later. The email (shown below) was all around my favorite email I had ever received in my life.
"Dear Exhibiting Designer, Congratulations! We are notifying you that your designer application was reviewed and approved for DC Fashion Week."
At that moment, nothing could measure up to that feeling of happiness. Nothing.
The very very first thing I did was read the email and stop at the approval line. I remember putting my hands over my mouth in complete and utter shock. "Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh."
The next thing I did was message my closest friend, telling her about the 911 news. The rest was a blur of telling my parents, taking picture after picture of the email itself, and feeling a feeling of complete elation.
That's the news. After a couple of decisions are made, I could be a designer at DC Fashion Week. It's no NYFW, but its my NYFW.

See? Amazing.

Summer staple

Simple outfit post today. I'm mixing knit with light cotton to wave goodbye to spring and fully embrace summer. The shirtdress is one of my favorite summer staples, so I was excited to slip it on and wear it.

Shoe Crush: White two-strap wedge sandals

Shoe crushing hard today. This time, I actually own these shoes. I actually took my love into consideration (would these make me happy? Yes!) and put a plan into action. The plan being buying these gorgeous pieces of eye candy referred to as shoes, waiting anxiously for them to arrive, slipping them on my awaiting feet when they actually do arrive, and feeling like a princess.
This purchase had only a little to do with the fact that it is wedge season, and more to do with wedge craving in general. The plan was to buy some cute summer shoes to wear for my graduation ceremony, but that didn't work out because the shoes came about a day or two late. I was perusing Polyvore, my favorite shopping site, and found some wedges, but none of them were the one. I eventually, after much defeat, moved to plain old Google, and there I found them on a fabulous site called Light in the Box, after eliminating close-but-not-the-one-material wedges. I saw these wedges and positively swooned. Perfect for summer, perfect for formal events, simple but not boring, they were beautiful. Really. I immediately sent them to my mom, who agreed on the purchase, and I was good to go. When they arrived, I squealed and ran over to open the package. These wonderful shoes were every bit as beautiful as I expected, and for the first few days, I wore them around the house, all the time.
Now, enough of me raving. You'll see for yourself...

One of the many many things I like about the shoe is the platform. It's really beachy and sort of rugged in a feminine way, kind of like me. If I were to be a wedge, I would be these (or these probably) wedges because they are so my style. They're also incredibly versatile, and hey, white's gonna be a huge color this summer!

Happy birthday

Hey girls,
This weekend was a very busy one for me. And in the best possible way! My birthday was on June 5! Yesterday! I had fun celebrating with my closest friends. My birthday was perfect in every way. Friends, family, food, everyone and everything I loved was present. I got some wonderful gifts as well, like two incredible pieces of artwork from my aunt and my sister. Overall, my birthday was so fun and exciting!
The last couple of days went like this: June 3 was the last day of school for me, June 3rd to 4th was my birthday celebration, June 4 was a going away party for one of my dear friends (I'll miss you! xx) that ended at 11:00 but I ended getting home at about 12:30 am, June 5 was my birthday, June 6 (today) was my graduation ceremony and a graduation pool party that in part celebrated the last day of school. I had such an eventful weekend, and now that it's coming to a close, I have time to reflect about how crazy it all was! I loved the thrill, but I always look forward to relaxing, even when I have had so much fun.
The outfit here was my birthday outfit. I especially love the simplicity. which is why this floral shirt paired with a black maxi skirt was a go-to. I usually don't love the whole loose-on-loose concept, but why not try it out for my birthday? I just slid some simple flip-flops on my feet so I could stay comfortable and well as fashionable! Also pictured are the two pieces of artwork that I received for my birthday. I have currently found a home for the smaller one in my room, and I'm clamoring to find a place to hang up the fashion-themed one. They're both beautiful and perfect for my room, and perfect for me. I also included pictures of the gorgeous graduation roses that my parents gave me. They're beautiful, and I can't stop staring at them next to me as I blog. I love how regal they look! The rich red color paired with the dark, powerful green and crisp whites makes me want to buy something in this color theme.

Shoes: H&M

Two pieces of artwork given to me by my aunt and sister... aren't they so modern and cool?

The gorgeous roses my parents gave me. I am so in awe with how beautiful they are! These roses make graduating worth it! ;)

I was so excited about my birthday yesterday, and even though it's one day old, I still can't believe I'm one year older! It's always great to celebrate that big step of being one year more experienced. now, I'm going to go find a spot for my second piece of artwork and try not to lose myself staring at those gorgeous roses
